When working with livestock, cleanliness is not only next to Godliness - it is also next to healthfulness. Stalls should be swept out daily. To combat the summer onslaught of flies, it is helpful to have a 6-in. layer of agricultural lime on the stall floors. This lime should be between the size of sand and pea gravel - do not use powdered lime, and above all, DO NOT USE QUICK LIME!! Besides keeping down the flies, the limed floors help keep the milkers from getting frequent cases of mastitis.
